School expansion gets underway

Apr 21, 2020 | 1:54 PM

Construction has started on a 240-seat expansion at BX Elementary School on Silver Star Road.

When the project was first announced by Education Minister Rob Fleming a year ago, the school, which has space for 300 students, was operating at 147 per cent capacity with five portables on site.

The 240 student spaces is the equivalent of 10 classrooms.

It’s the first school expansion to be completed in the Vernon School District since 2003-04.

The $11.4 million project is expected to be completed by September 2021.

Vernon-based MQN Architecture and Interior Design designed the project.

An agreement with the City of Vernon will allow the site, which is in the RDNO, to connect to city sewer service.
