British Columbia has 25 new cases of COVID 19, bringing the total to 1,724.

That includes 707 people in Vancouver Coastal Health, 715 in Fraser Health, 109 on Vancouver Island, 153 in Interior Health (same as Monday) and 40 in Northern Health.

There are no new outbreaks at long term care facilities, with 319 cases in those facilities and 20 outbreaks.

An outbreak at the Mission federal prison now has 76 confirmed cases, including 65 inmates.

There are no new cases from an outbreak at a work project at Kearl Lake in northern Alberta which had six workers from Interior Health with cases.

There are 109 people hospitalized in B.C. with COVID-19, with 51 in critical or intensive care.

There is one new death at a long term care facility in Vancouver Coastal Health, bringing the death toll to 87.

A total of 1,041 people have fully recovered from the virus.

An outbreak at the United Poultry company in Vancouver has 28 employees testing positive.

“The plant has been closed and the close contacts have been notified,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer.

“I know there will be concerns about the products coming from this plant, a chicken processing plant. We don’t have any evidence that COVID-19 can be spread from meat, or from consuming products like that, or from the packaging from meat or chicken.”

However, Henry said raw poultry can have other bacteria like salmonella and it’s very important to use proper hygiene, cleaning and cooking methods.

Henry says it remains “incredibly important” for people to continue staying home and following the distancing and health protocols to prevent new cases, especially staying home if you feel sick.
