British Columbia has seen three more deaths from Covid-19 since Friday.

It brings the provincial death toll to 38 after two Covid-related deaths in the Vancouver Coastal region and one in the Fraser Health region.

There is 29 new cases since Friday, bringing that total to 1,203.

Cases in the Interior Health region have increased by two, to 128.

One-hundred-and-forty-nine people are in hospital including 68 in intensive care, and 704 people have fully recovered from the virus.

Provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said the 2 per cent growth rate since Friday is a positive sign.

“Every day that we have been bending the curve is a good thing. There are many things that are out of our control and that’s why we’re making such a big deal about people who are coming into the country [and having to self isolate for 14 days], because we are holding our own right now,” Henry told the media by teleconference.

Henry there is no way to know if the virus will subside by the summer, but she says that is what generally occurs with other viruses.

“When we have increased UV light and warmer temperatures it tends to fade away. That’s what we see with influenza every year. We need to watch that carefully. We don’t know how this virus is going to behave.”

Henry said there have been no additional positive Covid cases at the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver, where one inmate tested positive.

She said the health of others who were potentially exposed is being monitored.

The next scheduled update for B.C. is on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
