Vernon restaurant adds nostalgia items to its take-out menu

In this time of uncertainty, there is nothing like a walk down memory lane to get people thinking a bit more positive.

A Vernon-based restaurant company has announced the addition of Olympia Greek Taverna menu items to its downtown Vernon Take and Bake Shop.

“The Pretium Restaurant Group has had a long term relationship with the family that owns Olympia Greek Taverna as they we’re also the founders of Athens Pizza and Spaghetti in Vernon many years ago, which ultimately became The Italian Kitchen Company that Vernon residents know and love today,” Katie Dahl, vice president, said.

Dahl said the timing is perfect to add Olympia Greek Taverna menu items to their take and bake store which is a few doors down from The Italian Kitchen on 30th Avenue.

“Effective [today], we are introducing two very well known items from Olympia Greek Taverna – baked lasagne and baked spaghetti. More items will be added in the coming weeks,” Dahl said.

Sherman Dahl, president, said Athens Pizza and Spaghetti was a fixture of downtown Vernon for many years, founded and run by the same family that started Olympia Greek Taverna in 1973 in Rutland.

He told Vernon Matters the same family owns most of the block where Italian Kitchen is and the Towne Theatre.

Sherman Dahl said the nostalgic menu items are something they’ve been talking about for some time, and come as The Italian Kitchen celebrates its 25th anniversary in Vernon.
