Decisive win over Cents keeps Vipers in race for third

Family Day was a fun day for Vernon Vipers fans at Kal Tire Place.

The home town team got two goals and one assist from Calgary native Ryan Shostak in a 5-1 win over the Merritt Centennials Monday afternoon before a crowd of 2,082.

Jackson Caller added one goal and one assist and captain Connor Marritt chipped in two assists.

The victory put the Vipers in fourth place with two games left in their regular season next weekend against West Kelowna.

Wenatchee is third with 64 points, Vernon is next with 63 and Salmon Arm is fifth with 61 and a game in hand on the other two.

The Vipers host West Kelowna Friday and visit the Warriors to close out the regular campaign on Saturday, with both games on 1075 Beach Radio.

Feb. 15

Dawson Holt scored two goals for the second straight game as the Vernon Vipers doubled the West Kelowna Warriors 4-2 Saturday night.

Holt now has 21 goals on the season.

A crowd of 2,140 took in the game at Kal Tire Place.

Max Bulawka and Matt Kowalski each added two assists for the Vipers who improved to 29-23-2 and 1 on the season.

Keegan Karki stopped 23 of 25 shots for the win in net.

After Saturday’s games, Wenatchee has 62 points in third place in the Interior Division, with Salmon Arm and Vernon a point back.

The Vipers have three games left in the regular season and host the Merritt Centennials on Family Day Monday at 2 p.m.

In the KIJHL, the 100 Mile House Wranglers defeated the North Okanagan Knights 3-1.

In the WHL, the Red Deer Rebels edged the Kelowna Rockets 3-2.

Vipers start busy weekend with loss to Wild (Feb. 14)

Daniel Chenard made 27 saves to backstop the Wenatchee Wild to a 5-2 win over the Vernon Vipers Friday night in Washington state.

The win put the Wild into fourth place in the Interior Division, one point back of the third place Salmon Arm Silverbacks and one point ahead of the fifth place Vipers.

Dawson Holt scored both goals for Vernon, giving the Saskatoon native 19 on the season.

Reilly Herbst made 32 saves in the Vipers net in taking the loss before 2,290 fans at the Town Toyota Centre.

The Vipers have four games left in their regular season, and host the West Kelowna Warriors Saturday night at 6 p.m. and the Merritt Centennials Monday at 2 p.m., with both games on 107.5 Beach Radio.

In a battle of the league’s top two teams Friday, the Coquitlam Express edged the Penticton Vees 3-2 before 3,308 fans at the South Okanagan Events Centre, clinching first place overall for the Express.

In the KIJHL, the North Okanagan Knights defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes 4-3 in Armstrong, with the Knights visiting the 100 Mile House Wranglers on Saturday.
