Rumours of new building use, just that at this point

There are rumours on social media that the former Canadian Tire building in Vernon could become a storage business.

In fact, a sign posted at the site says ‘Future home of Vernon Storage Centre.’

However, officials with Canadian Tire, the company that still owns the site and runs a gas bar there, is not saying much.

“We don’t have anything to share at this time but please do check in at a later date,” said Krystal Stukas, corporate communications with the Canadian Tire Corporation in an email to Vernon Matters.

Administration with the City of Vernon also could not confirm anything, with Kevin Poole, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, saying “they have not received a business license application for the building.”

The building at 4512 27 Street has been vacant since Canadian Tire moved to a larger location, the former Target store site in the Village Green Centre, in May 2016.
