Vees split series with Snakes

Dec 14, 2019 | 8:52 PM

There’s no place like home.

That seemed to be the case for the Vernon Vipers and Penticton Vees who split their weekend BCHL series, both winning their home games.

The Vees dominated Saturday’s contest, winning 4-1 before 2,979 onlookers at the South Okanagan Events Centre, after Vernon’s 2-0 win Friday at Kal Tire Place..

Arnprior Ontario product David Silye led the Interior Division leading Vees with a goal and two assists, while Yaniv Perets made 20 saves for the win in net.

Logan Cash from Upper Tantallon Nova Scotia was the only Snake to score, with Reilly Herbst taking the loss between the pipes, facing 35 shots.

The Vipers had several regulars out for the second straight game, with affiliated players filling in.

“They were pinching down on us hard and we needed to make some plays that ultimately we didn’t. They got more O-zone time than we would have liked,” said Vipers associate coach Eric Morrissette in the post game show on Beach Radio with Graham Turnbull.

“Reilly did play well and held us in there (but) against a team like this, if you’re going to play in your own zone, you’re going to be in for a tough night,” Morrissette added.

The Vipers have one more game before a ten day holiday, hosting the Trail Smoke Eaters Dec. 18.
