A Vernon Vipers defenceman is being watched closely by pro scouts.

The NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List, released this week, ranks Trey Taylor as a ‘C’ Prospect, which means a potential fourth, fifth or sixth-round pick.

“The Richmond product is looking to build off a fantastic first season where he played in 74 games both regular season and playoffs tallying two goals and 19 points in that span as a 16-year-old,” said the Vipers website in a story on Taylor.

The other BCHL players on Central Scouting’s List are:

Chilliwack Chiefs forward Ethan Bowen, Langley Rivermen defenceman Ryan Helliwell, Nanaimo Clippers forward Kyler Kovich and Penticton Vees forward Danny Weight.

All five of the BCHL players are ‘C’ prospects.

The highest-rated CJHL player is Carter Savoie, a defenceman for the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders.

Last year, eight BCHL players were selected in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, including former Victoria Grizzlies and reigning BCHL MVP Alex Newhook who was chosen in the first round (16th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche.

Fourty-four WHL players are on the Watch List, including one Kelowna Rocket, forward Pavel Novak, a ‘C’ prospect.

“Four WHL players were given ‘A’ ratings, including Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Kaiden Guhle, Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Daemon Hunt, Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Braden Schneider, and Vancouver Giants forward Justin Sourdif. Guhle, Hunt, and Sourdif raised their profile throughout the summer, competing for Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Schneider won gold at the tournament in 2018 with Canada,” said a WHL news release.
