The official student numbers are in for the Vernon School District.

District 22 Superintendent Joe Rogers says they have 91 more students than they did in September 2018, which will mean increased funding from the Ministry of Education.

Total enrolment is 8,927 which includes kindergarten to Grade 12 students, along with online, alternate and international students.

“Through steady, manageable growth over the last few years, the district has been able to increase divisions and classes at various schools and provide more support for students,” Rogers told Vernon Matters.

The school board is budgeting $660,000 for up to four portable classrooms, where needed next year, to deal with schools that are over capacity.

The B.C. government has committed $11 million for an expansion to BX Elementary to be done by 2021, to provide an additional 240 seats.
