Fire crews douse illegal burn in Armstrong

Aug 8, 2019 | 3:17 PM

Armstrong fire crews were busy this morning extinguishing a fire on Fortune Road.

Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Chief Ian Cummings told Vernon Matters a woman was burning grass illegally when it quickly spread out of control.

“It was just somebody having an illegal burn, that got out of hand and it’s been extinguished,” said Cummings.

He estimates that the fire was roughly 20 x 10 meters in size.

The fire danger rating in the North Okanagan currently stands at high, which according to the B.C. Wildfire Service means that new fires may start easily and they can also be difficult to extinguish with fire suppression efforts.
