City Gets Flood Prevention Funds

City Gets Flood Prevention Funds

May 16, 2019 | 11:46 AM

The City of Vernon is among twenty-two local and regional governments to get provincial funding to prevent flooding.

The City will receive 150-thousand dollars for phase one of flood risk assessment, mapping and mitigation planning of upper and lower BX Creek.

It’s not a problem this year, but BX Creek has flooded in past years, creating problems for nearby homes, other properties, and public infrastructure.

It’s part of 3 million dollars in preparedness funding from the province for communities.

“It’s critical that we invest now in preparedness and disaster mitigation,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “Funding these projects is another way that we’re building resiliency in our communities to improve public safety.”
