The Regional District of the North Okanagan has received a grant to help with a valley wide climate impact initiative.

The district was awarded $25,000 from the Okanagan Basin Water Board’s Water Conservation and Quality Improvement Grant Program.

The money will be used to create a climate projections report that will span across the Okangan valley.

The report, once completed will help communities with decisions surrounding planning and infrastructure, flood and drought preparedness and water conservation.

” We are so grateful to the Okanagan Basin Water Board for their support on this important project,” said Kevin Acton, Chair of the Board, in a press release statement.

” We recognize that the Okanagan is one valley with one water so the collaborative approach to the creation of the report with the North, Central, and South Okanagan Regional Districts will provide valuable climate change projections for the entire basin, ” Acton added.

The report will help communities understand what the future will hold with regards to flooding , drought and extreme weather events and if changes are needed to improve reservoirs and storm water infrastructure in the future .

The district says the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium will work on the projections and indicator work while a consultant will be hired to write the report.
