Courthouse Not Beyond Repair

Courthouse: Not Beyond Repair

May 13, 2019 | 4:27 PM

Consultants are still examining damage to the Vernon courthouse, but at this point, they do not believe the 105-year old building is beyond repair.

The Ministry of Attorney General says damage has been found in two courtrooms. the sheriff’s area, the waiting area,  a conference room and the exterior facade of the building.

It’s not known how long the repairs will take or what they will cost.

“The (structural and geotechnical) consultants are currently developing a schedule for the work required,” says an email from the ministry.

“We will have more information available in the coming weeks. We are working with the judiciary to ensure that day-to-day operations carry on at the Vernon courthouse as planned.”

The problems were caused by a faulty air conditioner that leaked water into some rooms last month.

“We will know more about the extent of the damage as the consultants complete their work, but we do not expect the courthouse to be beyond repair,” adds the Ministry.
