Smaller Fire Departments Get Funding Boo

Smaller Fire Departments Get Funding Boost

The B.C. government is boosting funding for volunteer and composite fire departments by five million dollars for equipment and training.

Eligible fire departments include local governments, First Nations communities and society-run departments.

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says the funding will help build resiliency for smaller fire departments.

“What we really want to do is to level the playing field for smaller volunteer and composite fire departments in B.C.’s local and First Nations communities,” said Farnworth in an announcement made in Peachland Friday.

“The smaller a department’s budget, the higher the priority in the allocation of these funds, so we can make sure these funds get to the communities that need them most.”

The funds will be distributed through the Union of BC Municipalities.
