Over 25,000 Sockeye Salmon Fry were released into the 6 mile creek last week , thanks to some help from students at Alexis Park Elementary.

The students from Mr. Ben Louis’ and Mr. Brian McDougall’s classess  worked alongside  the Okanagan Indian Band and the Okanagan Nation Alliance FINS program to become the first school in the district to raise and release Sockeye fry into the creek.

The district says the students learned about the importance of protecting the environment as well as the cultural importance of salmon to the Okanagan.

Aboriginal Support worker Mrs. Morgan was able to secure a $500 grant from the World Wildlife Fund in order to help support the project.
