UPDATE

A change of ownership won’t change the focus of a Vernon based business.

Buy-Low Foods has purchased Nature’s Fare Markets from the Monahan family, which includes seven stores in B.C., and the head office in Vernon.

Buy-Low president Dan Bregg says in an email to Beach Radio News, it will be “business as usual” for the  Nature’s Fare operations, and the entire management team will be staying on, including members of the Monahan family.

“The Natures Fare operations will continue operating “business as usual” and we are very pleased that Michael Sherwood, Claire and Alexa Monahan and the entire management team will be staying on to continue to deliver quality products and exceptional service to their customers just as they always have,” says Bregg.

Buy-Low is owned by the B.C. based Jim Pattison Group.

Bregg says Buy-Low is excited, and pleased to have Natures Fare Markets join their family of businesses.

“Natures Fare Markets are highly regarded for their offerings of natural, organic and healthy living options for families in British Columbia and, like all our divisions, are community focused and made up of people who are passionate about what they do.”

Bregg says they are proud the Monahan family have chosen their company to continue the legacy the group of seven stores; with locations in Langley, White Rock, Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna, Westbank and Penticton; have built over their 25 years of operations.

Buy-Low Foods (BLF) was founded as a single store in 1966 and today is a Western Canadian owned and operated retailer with 60 corporate and franchise independent stores in communities in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

BLF’s retail store banners include Buy-Low Foods, Choices Markets, Meinhardt’s Fine Foods, Natures Fare Markets and Nesters Market.

A growing Vernon-based company with stores around BC has been sold.

Nature’s Fare Markets has been purchased by Buy-Low Foods, which is owned by the B.C. based Jim Pattison Group.

Nature’s Fare has seven stores around B.C. including in Vernon, Kelowna, and throughout the Okanagan, as well as in Kamloops, Langley and White Rock.

‘Grocery Business’ says Rick Monahan opened the first Nature’s Fare Market in Kelowna in 1993.

In 2018, Monahan operated the business with co-owners and daughters Alexa Monahan and Claire Volpatti.

Buy-Low Foods was purchased by The Jim Pattison Group in 1995.

The company was originally founded in 1966 with the first store opening at Arbutus Street & 16th Avenue in Vancouver.

Buy-Low Foods is the largest food wholesale distributor to independents in Canada, servicing nearly 1,800 supermarket, convenience and specialty produce markets.

No word yet on what plans Buy Low has for Nature’s Fare stores.
