Two Custom Bikes Stolen From BMX Track

Update: Custom Bikes Stolen From BMX Track

May 3, 2019 | 10:44 AM

Bike thefts are on the rise, and the Vernon BMX Club is one of the latest victims.

Someone entered the club’s moto shed this week and stole two BMX style bikes that belonged to the track director and a long time club member.

“Both volunteer numerous hours a year to the club and program and it is heart breaking that the thieves just helped themselves to property that doesn’t belong to them,” says BMX Club President Shylo Orchard. “The bikes stolen from the BMX Club include two, one-of-a-kind, custom bikes both worth over $3,500 each.”

Bike #1: Grey RIFT frame, 24 inch wheels with gold accents.

Bike #2:  Black PURE frame, 20 inch wheels with orange accents and pink coloured handlebar grips.

With the warmer weather, RCMP are reminding bike owners to secure their property and report any thefts to police.

“Recording your bike serial number or registering your bike with Garage 529 are two ways that if your bike is stolen and recovered, it can be returned to you,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “The police recover a lot of bikes, but unfortunately there is no way to trace them back to the owner if not reported with the proper information, like a serial number.”

Anyone with any information on the bike thefts is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com.

You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information that leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.

Thieves made off with two new custom bikes on Thursday night from the BMX Motoshed on 20th street.

The bikes belonged to coaches and are one of a kind.

According to posts on Facebook, the coaches are set to represent Vernon next weekend at the Canadian National Series opener in Chilliwack.

Bottles were also taken from the shed on site.
