Bike Fest Ready To Roll

The third annual Vernon Bike Fest starts Thursday and continues until Sunday, put on by the North Okanagan Cycling Society.

Vice president Matt Ball says the event aims to celebrate the mountain bike culture in the city, and includes five key events.

“The bike fest is the cornerstone for launching the 2019 bike season. It brings people out to enjoy all things biking in the community,” says Ball.

The events including a screening of the movie ‘Reverence’ Thursday night at the Towne Theatre, a bike party at Ratio Coffee Friday night, and races and a Demo Day at Ellison Provincial Park this weekend.

A Rail Trail Art Festival will be held Saturday.

“Come ride your bike along the shores of Kalamalka lake while discovering some of the region’s talented artists. Live painting, performers, and music.”

People are encouraged to bike to the ride. If you need to park, you can at Polson Park, or at the new parking lot along Kal Lake Rd, just south of the Alpine Centre.

Ball says more volunteers are needed to help pull the event off.

Old Fashioned Race on May 4 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. is looking for another 4 course marshals to watch key intersections (and cheer on the racers) and of course, more racers.
