Earth Strike Vernon Gaining Momentum

A group of concerned youth and other supporters took to the steps of the Vernon court house yesterday to show their support for climate action.

This demonstration of an estimated 100 people was the second spearheaded by Earth Strike Vernon seeing an increase over the first event staged in February said spokesperson Kieran Gandbois, who said  “We are calling for action from the government to hold corporations accountable for significant contributions to climate change.”

The Global Earth Strike movement, which began in November 2018, has spread to over 60 countries. Demonstrators have reiterated they want climate change to be recognized as a crisis and in conjunction with the local demonstrators are “demanding immediate climate action from governments and corporations worldwide,”as quoted from their website.

Grandbois told Beach Radio News last February that “We always knew that climate change was an issue, and research indicated the hard facts and statistics behind it confirm that over 70 per cent of emissions on our planet are being produced by just 100 industrial polluters.”
