Planting Seeds Of Hope

Reps from Kelowna’s Gospel Mission and the Okanagan Chinese Canadian Association have planted seeds of Kelowna’s official flower in their downtown property on Leon.
The planting of the Arrowleaf Balsamroot officially kicks off a mural project to commemorate the history and contribution of early Chinese settlers in the region.
“We love the visual representation of planting, nurturing, growing, and harvesting,” says Randy Benson, Executive Director of Kelowna’s Gospel Mission. “Not only does it signify one of the important economic activities of our region and that of early Chinese farmers especially after the mining and railway building periods, but it also shares our similar values of planting hope within the hearts of those we serve through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Charles Chau, a Hong Kong born artist and resident of Kelowna, has been commissioned to work on the project. “I was thrilled and honoured to be part of this. When I started on this project, I began researching on the history of early Chinese settlers in the Okanagan region and was thrilled by the many contributions they made.”
