Update: Fire Consumes Home and Vehicles

UPDATE

The cause is still under investigation, but police say a fire that destroyed a home near Falkland Tuesday did not appear to involve foul play.

A house and two vehicles were consumed in the early morning blaze in the 3200 block of Highway 97 near Salmon River Road.

Constable Kelly Brett says the home was engulfed in flames when officers arrived, and all occupants got out safely.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, however it is not being considered as suspicious in nature,” Brett says in an email to Beach Radio News.

The home was not in a fire protection area, so no fire crews responded to the incident.

A house and two vehicles were destroyed by a fire at a farming property near Falkland this morning.

The home along Highway 97 near Salmon River Road was not in any fire protection area, so no crews were able to respond.

The occupants tell the Morning Star everyone got out safely, and they don’t know how it started.

“It was a structure fire and it was outside of fire department jurisdiction, so we didn’t respond. We’re not equipped to deal with structure fires. We relayed the information to the RCMP,” a spokesperson from the BC Wildfire Service told Beach Radio News.

Beach Radio has reached out to RCMP for information on the investigation.

What looks to be a barn or farm structure is fully engulfed in flames on Salmon River Road near Falkland.

The blaze is close to the intersection of Highway 97 and Salmon River Road and also close to a forested area.

No word yet on any injuries or cause.
