It was one of the driest March’s on record for Vernon.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says 12.7 millimetres of rain or snow hit the ground over the month, half the normal amount of 25.4 mm.

“It ranked as the 15th driest on record, with records going back to 1903,” Sekhon tells Beach Radio News.

“All across BC, it was a very dry month,” he says. It’s certainly concerning with the (wildfire) season coming.”

It was also colder than normal, with the average mean temperature reaching 2.4 degrees Celsius.

“The normal is 3.9 degrees, so it was 1.5 degrees cooler than the normal.”

More seasonal wet weather is expected to move in later this week, allowing us to use the phase “April Showers Brings May Flowers!”

“Towards mid week we’re going to see the weather turn into more of a spring pattern where we’ll see a chance of showers Wednesday. The unsettled conditions will continue on through the weekend,” says Sekhon.

Vernon set one record in March, a record high temperature on March 20th of 15.8 degrees, breaking the old record of 15.6 in 1915.
