City throws support at horseshoe provincials

Some of the best horseshoe throwers in the province could be making their way to Vernon.

The Vernon Horseshoe club went before council to ask for their support in hosting the 2020 Provincial Championship Tournament.

They say the event would bring in roughly 70- 100 competitors to the city plus their families on Labour Day weekend.

” It would be a big heavyweight for us to have your endorsement in it, and to be able to be chosen to host it here ,” said Don Myrfield, President of the Vernon Horseshoe club.

In their request to council, Myrfield said that they currently have 16 horseshoe pits at their facility but they would need 18 in order to host provincials.

The Vernon Horseshoe club says the Kamloops Horseshoe Club has two portable pits that they would be willing to bring, but they would need the city’s help with installing them if they win the bid to host the games.

The club has also asked the city to put back some lighting that was removed two years ago because of deteriorating poles .

Council voted to provide a letter of support for the club in their application to host provincials.

The club will find out after April 1 if they won the bid to host the event.
