Repairs To Kal Pier Still In Works

Mar 25, 2019 | 6:30 AM

Plans to repair the Kal Beach Rotary Pier on Kalamalka Lake are still expected to go ahead this year, although there’s still no start date for the project.

High water levels two summers ago damaged the end section of the Coldstream pier, and since then, officials have been waiting for insurance issues to be finalized.

Regional District of North Okanagan board chair Kevin Acton says there appears to be support from member jurisdictions for maintaining the current “T” design.

He says a plan to change the shape to an “H” received push back from the fisheries officials.

“The original ask was for a different shape, and the fisheries ministry didn’t have any record on the fact we had approval to build a different shape,” Acton tells Beach Radio News.

RDNO staff have said insurance should cover the cost of the repairs, expected to be around $100,000.
