Focus Switching To Flood Prep

Focus Switching To Flood Prep

Mar 14, 2019 | 5:23 PM

With warmer weather and spring arriving, communities are shifting their focus onto getting prepared for spring flooding.

Armstrong has had flooding issues along Meighan Creek the last few years, and work on dredging the creek to reduce the flood risk has been going on since last month, the first such work in about 30 years.

The City is reminding property owners they are responsible for their own flood mitigation efforts such as sandbagging, subscribing to flood insurance coverage, and creating an emergency kit.

“We highly encourage property owners to remove or secure all items on your property that may create hazards if they were to be swept up into flood water. These items may become submerged or create surface debris that can increase the impact of flooding and create blockages or hazards,” says Warren Smith, Community Services Manager.
