Culture Centre Could Be On Hold Until 2020

Plans for a new 40 million dollar cultural centre in Vernon remain on hold, perhaps until after this fall’s federal election.
Greater Vernon Advisory Committee Chair Akbal Mund says they’ve applied for $23.57 million dollars in grants from senior governments to go along with borrowing up to $25 million which was approved by 59% in a referendum last October.
Mund says the normal waiting period for grants is 6 to 8 months, which could be pushed back even more if there is a change of government in Ottawa.
“When governments change, you have new people dealing with old business. We might not hear until next year, who knows? That’s just my own opinion. We don’t know what time we’ll actually hear,” Mund tells Beach Radio News.
