Sexual assault trial adjourned

The trial for a man accused of sexually assaulting a disabled woman outside of an Armstrong church in 2014 has been adjourned until Monday.

In court, Defense Lawyer Alexander Watt attempted to cross examine the victim and asked her where she was positioned on the stairs. The female victim, who cannot be identified because of a publication ban, paused and could not answer the defense.

The judge adjourned court briefly so that the victim could calm down.

Yesterday the court heard from the victim that she suffers from Anxiety.

She also suffers from a condition known as Global Delay .

Crown Prosecutor Neil Wiberg later stood before the judge to ask for further adjournment until Monday, so that the victim could see a doctor.

The judge stood down court yesterday because the victim shut down from anxiety when asked the same question by the defense.

The judge ultimately granted the adjournment.

Defense Lawyer Alexander Watt told the court that he understands that the victim is experiencing difficulty, but added that the case has been going on for a long time and he is not confident that the victim will get better.

“My position in this moment is that we are at that point now. We aren’t going to get any better,” said Watt.

The trial is set to continue on March 11, 2019 at 10 a.m.
