Heritage Buildings Preserved
Some of Enderby’s best known buildings will be included in a new Community Heritage Register for civic buildings.
Council has approved adding City Hall, which was built in 1909, and the Enderby Drill Hall, which opened five years later, as the first two structures on the list.
“A Community Heritage Register is a heritage planning tool that identifies local places which embody a community’s heritage values and character-defining elements,” said Kurt Inglis, City Planner and Deputy Corporate Officer, in a report to council.
Mayor Greg McCune says in addition to raising awareness in the community, it will also allow the city to access government grants to keep the buildings in good shape.
