Slippery Roads Cause Morning Crashes

 UPDATE: 12 p.m.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to eight crashes over 24 hours on slick roads in the region, between Thursday and Friday morning.

RCMP spokesperson, Constable Kelly Brett, says front-line officers attended mostly single vehicle collisions — which were down to poor road conditions, speed and following too closely.

She says there were no  major injuries in any of the crashes.

Brett reminds drivers that police don’t need to be called to a crash if only the vehicles are damaged and that drivers can exchange information and inform ICBC.

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m.

Greater Vernon drivers were back on slippery roads this morning after minor snow flurries overnight.

Callers to Beach Radio News Friday morning reported ice-like conditions on some stretches, including College Way.

Accidents were reported at 39th Avenue and Alexis Park Drive, 27th Avenue in south Vernon and on Bella Vista where at least one vehicle was said to have sustained significant damage.

As well, a logging truck, with its load slipping, blocked one lane of traffic heading south Highway 97 near the Vernon army camp.

Update 9:36 P.M :

Beach Radio News has received another report of a vehicle involved in an accident along Old Kamloops Road.

According to a source , a grey Honda Civic landed in a ditch near the SPCA turnoff on Haney Road.

It is unclear if there are any injuries.

Slippery roads caused a car to slip off the road and land sideways on Thursday night.

The incident happened on Old Kamloops Road at roughly 8:30 p.m.

 

Police on scene said the male driver of the vehicle managed to get out of the car and was unharmed in the incident.

Traffic was flowing in both directions along Old Kamloops Road when Beach Radio News was at the scene.
