Campfire prompts police response near mall

A campfire was the source of an emergency response near The Shops at Polson Park on Saturday.

According to sources; multiple police, fire, and ambulance crews were spotted at the mall sometime in the afternoon.

Cst. Kelly Brett with the Vernon North Okangan RCMP confirms a small campfire was started in the area and the individual responsible was taken into custody as a result of the incident.

“I can confirm it was a person lighting a small fire to keep warm.  The person was taken into custody and transported to the nearest medical facility to be assessed as they were inadequately dressed for the weather,” said Brett in an email to Beach Radio News.
