Local ski slopes expecting busy long weekend

If you were planning on hitting the slopes this weekend expect it to busy.

That’s according to representatives at both Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort who say they are anticipating quite a crowd this family day weekend.

“This will be our busiest 3-day stretch in our entire season. This is actually busier than Christmas and New Years. This is officially our busiest time of year because accommodations on the mountain are owned by people in British Columbia and Washington State,” said Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort.

“Fifty-two percent of the people coming this weekend are from the U.S.A, and then Alberta is our next biggest, followed by Vancouver and Ontario,” said Ballingall.

And the occupancy rates show it .

“As far as hotel vacancy we are over 95 per cent full on both Saturday and Sunday night,” confirmed Chantelle Deacon, Communications and Sponsorship Manager for SilverStar Mountain Resort.

But for those locals still wanting to soak up some fresh powder this long weekend , both representatives advise to come early to make sure you get the most out of the slopes.
