Local leaders, students and other members of the community gathered at the Schubert Center on Wednesday to hear from the RCMP at their  annual stakeholders meeting.

The meeting is to provide information on RCMP priorities and to receive feedback and ideas from stakeholders.

It is used as a way to help the RCMP with their strategic planning for the next three years .

“I think the youth engagement is going to be huge going forward, making sure we are educating the youth and supporting them, because that’s the next generation,” said Christine Fraser, Mayor of the Township of Spallumcheen.

Members of the media and the general public were prohibited from attending the meeting, but those who did attend said the on-going opioid crisis was a key part of the conversation.

Russ Balance of Interior Health said he is confident that the RCMP and Interior Health will continue to work cohesively on tackling the crisis.

“We always work collaboratively with the RCMP already so I just see continued collaboration and working together to achieve a common purpose,” said Russ Balance, Mental Heath and Substance Use Manager at Interior Health.
