Building continues to boom

Feb 12, 2019 | 1:09 PM

Construction continues to boom in the city of Vernon .

That’s according to a new report from the city’s economic development officer, who presented a report to council on Monday.

Kevin Poole says building permit values reached $148.9 million last year and that’s up 14 percent from 2017.

He adds that the increase has a lot to do with the jump in new residential home builds adding that 76 percent of total building permit values came from single family and multi family development builds.

In 2018 alone, 507 residential units were created, the second best on record since 2006 according to Poole.

As for what to expect in 2019 ?

Poole says it is hard to predict exactly what will happen this year but expects to see a slight decrease compared to 2018.

” For me I can’t see 2019 being quite as strong, as 2018 . 2018 was a very strong year but we’ve had these conversations internally as well and it is difficult to predict on when people will pull the trigger and make that investment .”
