M.V. Beattie Capacity On Enderby Mayor’s Radar

Oct 23, 2018 | 7:49 AM

Enderby Maor Greg McCune is hoping the newly elected North Okanagan Shuswap School Board will help deal with overcapacity at M.V. Beattie Elementary School.

McCune says it was discussed with representatives of the education ministry at the UBCM convention in September.

“And just basically ask to see their future plans, like are they going to do an addition to the school or are they going to do more portables. What is it that they’re thinking.”

McCune says the Ministry has since written back saying it doesn’t project much growth over the next five years.

He says the attitude was the same 8 years ago and that resulted in a school that is too small.

“Hopefully in the next three weeks or so we’ll be able to sit down and just show them that here’s what’s happening in our community and we’ve got young families coming from everywhere, so suggesting that there’s flat growth is a big mistake for this area.”

McCune says there are no projections on growth, but he keeps hearing from realtors about the number of families with young school kids moving into the community.
