Time To Vote: Local Races, Voting Places, All You Need To Know

Voters around BC will go to the polls today to elect their civic and school board reps for the next four years.

In Vernon, there will be a new mayor elected, as there’s no incumbent in the race, and four candidates.

Victor Cumming (economist), Art Gourley (painter), Erik Olesen (convenience store operator) and Darrin Taylor (business owner) are seeking the job, with 20 running for the six councillor spots including four incumbents. Click here for list.

The voting sites in Vernon are the Vernon Rec Centre, Ellison Elementary, and Vernon Secondary School, with the polls open from 8 am to 8 pm in all areas.

Coldstream voters will decide if Jim Garlick gets get a fourth term as mayor, as he faces a challenge from retired lawyer Bill Firman.

There are two voting sites in Coldstream, at Coldstream Elementary and Lavington Elementary.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has races in Areas B, C and F, after Rick Fairbairn (Area D Rural Lumby) and Hank Cameron (Area E Cherryville) were acclaimed.

Incumbent and RDNO chair Bob Fleming is being challenged by tech company executive Myles McGovern in Area B (BX Swan Lake). Amanda Shatzko and Mike Randell are running in Area C (BX Silver Star), to take over from retiring director Mike Macnabb.

Area B and C residents vote at BX Elementary School.

Area F (rural Enderby) is between Denis Delisle and Lori Heins, and they vote at the Enderby Seniors Complex. Complete list here.

Greater Vernon voters (Vernon, Coldstream and RDNO Areas B and C) will decide the fate of a referendum, to borrow up to 25 million dollars for a new cultural centre.

Spallumcheen has incumbent Janice Brown looking for a third term, squaring off against veteran councillor Christine Fraser.

Enderby has one term mayor Greg McCune being challenged by veteran RDNO Area F director Herman Halvorson.

In Lumby, Kevin Acton has been acclaimed to fourth term as mayor, and eight candidates are running for the four council spots including three incumbents. Voting is at the Village of Lumby office.

Lumby also has three candidates seeking the two area positions on the School District 22 board.

Armstrong has acclaimed Chris Pieper to a fourth term as mayor, while seven are running for council, six incumbents and one newcomer. Click here for list.

There are four candidates running for the School District 83 trustee positions for the Enderby and Armstrong areas. Click here for that list.

There is also mayor’s race in Lake Country with four term incumbent James Baker being challenged by former corrections officer Barry Rhodes.

Blair Ireland (Okanagan Centre) and Jerremy Kozub (Winfield) were acclaimed to their positions, with two candidates each in Carr’s Landing and Oyama, and three for councillor at large. Complete list

Lake Country residents are also voting on a referendum on borrowing up to $6.6 million for a new firehall in Winfield.

Lake Country voting is at the Community Gym at George Elliot Secondary School.
