City Has New Battle Over Cop Costs
The City of Vernon has another beef with the RCMP, and the province’s solicitor general, about policing costs.
Mayor Akbal Mund says the Mounties have told the city it will have to start paying several workers to field calls for service after 5 pm.
“We’re going to get a 70-thousand to 90-thousand dollar hit on this, and they want to start not this coming Monday, but the Monday after that. I’m going ‘Well we only had a few weeks notice here. What are you doing?’ And nothing in writing,” Mund told Beach Radio News.
Mund says the city is tired of unexpected costs being forced on them by the force.
