Robb Nash Project Heads To Vernon With Message For Youth

Robb Nash is a man with a band with a message that is not like a lot of the music that caters to young people today.

His is one of hope, life-changing and the future.

The Robb Nash Project for Youth mental health and Suicide Prevention is coming to Vernon October 2nd and 3rd.

The Vernon & District branch of the Canadian mental Health Association is hosting the event.

Executive Director Julia Payson says when the organization heard of Robb’s powerful message and impact on youth, it was important to bring him here.

“With our communities suffering from an opiod crisis and suicide being the second leading cause of death for Canadian youth, Robb has a life-changing message for teens, teachers, parents and all community members.”

The award-winning Canadian musician has reached more than one million young people through story, song and picture.

Touring Canada for the past 10 years, the Robb Nash Project explores sensitive topics such as suicide, addiction, self-harm and other mental-health related subjects.

His reach has been so strong, more than 600 students across the country have given him their suicide notes.

Hundreds who self-harm gave him their razor blades.

Countless more have pushed away bottles of pills and other drugs.

Nash’s focus resulted from a life threatening car accident that left him dealing with mental and physical pain, and years of anger, self-doubt and depression.

He found a purpose and through personal stories, humour, songs and video, Nash sensitively deals with serious issues.

“We are very excited to be part of the Robb Nash Project this year,” says Payson. “Because of support from ,local organizations who help fund our suicide preventiopn programs, we are able to bring this powerful message to our youth free of charge.”

Current supporters of CMHA’s suicide prevention program include 100 Women Who Care, BC Gaming, Community Foundation of the North Okanagan, and the United Way,North Okanagan-Columbia Shuswap.”

Robb Nash and his band tour the country performing in schools, detention centres, reserves and other youth venues as part of a 150 date per year tour.

Audience feedback consistently includes stories of personal breakthrough, realization of self-worth and personal growth.

The Robb Nash Project will take place October 2nd and 3rd at the Vernon & District Performing Arts centre, including free concerts for North Okanagan youth in grades 7 to 10 on October 2nd and 3rd, and an evening community fundraising performance October 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

Proceeds from the Community Performance will support the Robb Nash Project and CHMA Vernon & District.
