Apartments Drive New Construction

Vernon continues to be busy with new home construction.

Canada Mortgage and Housing says there has been 299 starts to the end of August, which is more than 100 ahead of last year’s 195.

The biggest increase has been in apartments — with 110 starts — compared to 15 last year.

There were 20 new starts in August: 10 single detached, 8 semi-detached, and 2 apartments.

Kelowna had a strong August for housing starts, but the year-to-date numbers are down by about 28% compared to the city’s construction record last year (2,483 to end of August).
