Mayoralty Candidate Concerned About Debt

Voters in Enderby will have a race for mayor in next month’s elections.

Herman Halvorson is challenging one term mayor Greg McCune, with Halvorson saying the city is running away with its debt.

“At some point in time, we’ve got to start paying off……It’s like a credit card. We’ve got to start paying off our debt.”

Halvorson is the current director for Area F — rural Enderby — on the Regional District of North Okanagan board.

He was asked why Enderby’s debt is so high.

“They’ve been doing some beautification work and different things like that, I haven’t really got into the mix and gone at it, but at the end of the day, they do have to get control if it because it’s credit card debt.”

Halvorson used to live in Grindrod, but moved to Enderby in 2016.

Halvorson says he doesn’t have any criticism of McCune, but he would like to see Enderby join RDNO’s Conservation Trust Fund.

“Armstrong and Lumby are in, and if you put money in, you can leverage funding, some places up to five to ten times,” noting he’s using it for Gardem Creek to be assessed.

Halvorson, who has been the Area F director for a total of 13 years (not consecutive), says he will be supporting his alternate the last four years, Denis Delisle, a former Columbia Shuswap Regional Director, for Area F in the October 20th elections.
