Firefighters are still slogging it out at four major wildfires burning in the North Okanagan.
Approximately 160 personnel with 26 pieces of equipment are on the lines of the Monashee Complex fires.
These include 100 personnel, including members of the Canadian Armed Forces, who remain at the Harris Creek wildfire, southeast of Lumby.
BC Wildfire spokesperson Nicole Bonnett says they will like stay in place throughout the long weekend.
“Everybody on the ground has been putting in some fairly long, hard days,” Bonnett says.
She says the cooler weather is helping to minimize fire behaviour and intensity but more rain is needed.
There is a new fire burning in the Vernon Fire Zone.
Bonnett says it is at Victor Creek in the Monashees, east of Malakwa.
It is said to be .01 hectares in size and the cause is not known.
She says five personnel with nine pieces of heavy equipment remain at the Mabel Creek wildfire, 20 personnel at Sugar Mountain and 33 firefighters with nine pieces of equipment at Woodward Creek.
