No More Politics For Catherine Lord

No More Politics For Catherine Lord

A well-known face on Vernon city council is bowing out of local politics.

Catherine Lord has served two terms on council but says it is time to give up her seat.

Looking back, Lord says she’s proud of how the annual infrastructure levy has helped to modernize the fabric of the city by paying for the reconstruction of Vernon’s roads, sewers and sidewalks.

“The last couple of years particularly, you can see all the construction that’s going on and that is due to that (levy),” Lord told Beach Radio News. “We’re repairing, we’re doing an awful to get Vernon back up to where it should be.”

Lord  is also pleased with council’s efforts to end the Kin Race Track dispute through the courts and how members pushed hard for new housing for the street-entrenched population. A new shelter is expected to open in the next few months while new housing is expected to be built next year.

One thing Lord won’t miss is social media.

“There seems to be a lot more permission for people to be nasty on social media and I find that really disturbing,” Lord says.

Lord has also served as a director on the North Okanagan Regional District board.
