Safeway Workers Say No
Unionized Safeway workers in BC have voted 99 percent to reject recommendations made by a special officer trying to end a bargaining stalemate.
President Ivan Limpright of the UFCW 1518, which represents 4,000 workers at the grocery outlet, says they hope the strong no vote will encourage owner Sobeys to return to the bargaining table.
“A 99 percent NO vote from our Safeway members gives our bargaining committee a clear mandate that these recommendations are unacceptable. An unequivocal rejection of these recommendations is what we need Sobeys to see,” says Limpright.
“The company needs to understand that our members are strong in their conviction. They don’t deserve to have their hard fought and bargained wages and benefits slashed because of Sobeys’ mismanagement in BC.”
