Coldstream Mayor Still Deciding On Re-el

Coldstream Mayor Still Deciding On Re-election Bid

Aug 21, 2018 | 7:12 AM

Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick still hasn’t decided whether to seek re-election as Mayor or run for council.

Garlick says he’s committed to seeking to remain on council in one form to see various projects through to completion.

“Because I think at some point, what happens is if you get a project completed or well on its way, the likelihood of it continuing is good.”

Garlick says he’s also waiting to get an idea who else is running, not just in Coldstream but around the regional district.

“You want some carry over as well. I think that’s a healthy way to have it. I don’t think you necessarily want to everyone or need everyone to continue on. But it’s good that there’s a little bit of continuity, a little bit of history as well.”

Garlick says he encourages people to consider running for council but to be sure to make themselves informed.

The current council in Coldstream is comprised of all men and Garlick says while he doesn’t know what any of them are planning to do, he’d like to see women on the ballot

“We bring different things to the table, so, you’re exactly right, we need to encourage everybody to come out and run and we are short of females definitely. When councillor Besso decided not to run, no one else stepped up.”

Maria Besso served two terms from 2008 – 2014 before stepping aside.
