Enderby A Step Closer To Cannabis Bylaw

Enderby A Step Closer To Cannabis Bylaw

Aug 17, 2018 | 6:44 AM

Enderby Council has given third reading to a bylaw regulating cannabis production and sales.

Council held a public hearing on the matter this week but nobody showed up.

Mayor Greg McCune says he feels the city is on track.

“About a year ago when we had a little information session we had about a dozen people and they had some great questions. So this time I think it’s getting a bit closer and the ones that are interested, they’re doing their due diligence to work through the federal and provincial regulations.”

The bylaw sets out to identify where production cannot take place.

“We’ve just basically identified, again, you know, nowhere near a school, nowhere near a pre-school, nowhere near kind of everything in town, parks, beaches that type of thing.”

But anyone wanting to go to an area where it’s not permitted could still apply.

“They can make an application for a text amendment and at that point we would do a public hearing, basically notifying people in that area and get the feedback.”

He says there may be a few spots in town where residents may not have any objection.
