A man believed to be a BC gang member has been charged with an attack at a campsite in Monte Lake, northwest of Vernon.

Police say the incident began as a verbal altercation, and escalated to an assault involving a golf club and machete in the 39-hundred block of Highway 97 the night of August 11.

“The victim, who was in the area camping with friends, was not known to the suspect. Both males were transported to hospital for treatment. The victim sustained a serious injury and remains in hospital,” says Cpl. Tania Finn.

43-year-old Jody Archie York of Langley has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.
