Weather is About to Change; Big Time

North Okanagan – including Vernon
South Okanagan – including Penticton
Significant change in weather today…

Thunderstorms are expected to develop today as an approaching upper low brings moisture and instability from the coast.

Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for parts of the Southwest Interior and the Columbias.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Stay inside if you have breathing difficulties. Find an indoor place that’s cool and ventilated. Using an air conditioner that cools and filters air may help. If you open the windows you may let in more polluted air.

Strong wind gusts, localized heavy downpours, and hail associated with the thunderstorms may complicate fire fighting efforts. Also local wind gusts will likely create challenges for boaters on some of the larger interior lakes.

As the upper low moves eastward across the interior tonight, moisture around the low and thunderstorms will give locally heavy downpours in parts of the Central Interior and the Columbias. Local rainfall amounts may reach 20 to 30 mm for tonight.

The upper low will move into Alberta Sunday morning. Drier conditions are expected by Sunday afternoon.
