The Alternative to Plastic? Cereal Straw

The Alternative to Plastic? Cereal Straws!

Aug 3, 2018 | 6:46 AM

There has been a lot of buzz recently about ditching plastic straws, Starbucks and Walt Disney Company have already jumped on board, and many more companies are expected to follow suite.

Starbucks has rolled out a new lid that doesn’t require a straw, they liken it to an adult sippy cup, and collapsible metal straws are now being sold in more and more places, but is there a better way to combat this plastic straw?

Twitter user Alex Hughesie thinks so.

Do you remember fruit loops straws? I used to LOVE those things, which of course we only got on special occasions because we weren’t allowed sugary cereals in my house. Unfortunately they were discontinued in 2009, but a change.org petition to bring them back has surfaced online and it seems Kellogs has taken note. While they don’t plan on bringing back the original, they have created a new special edition cereal straw, which will be available at their New York City cafe starting August 7th.

I know…so far away right? Well fear not, the nice folks at Kellogs have given us a DIY to make the straws ourselves at home. Check out the instructions HERE.
