Water Supplies In Good Shape

Water Supplies In Good Shape

Aug 1, 2018 | 6:27 AM

The heat wave hasn’t taken a huge toll on Greater Vernon’s water supply this summer.

Jennifer Miles — water sustainability coordinator with the Regional District of North Okanagan — says people’s efforts to be water wise have been paying-off.

“We’re actually sitting in a very good place where our reservoirs are slightly above normal right now, so we’re very happy to say we’ve got some good storage going into August.”

Miles says normal watering rules are in effect, allowing for up to 3 days a week, if needed.

“We always like to make sure folks are aware that you don’t necessarily need to water all those three days. A lot of our landscaping and lawns really only need to be watered once a week, just a good deep watering once a week.”

Miles tells Beach Radio News RDNO does follow-up on complaints of water being wasted.

“We are more than happy to take calls from the public. If they see water being wasted, we can send staff out to speak with the property owner and help encourage them to learn more about the water restrictions.”
