More Jobs At Salad Products Plant

Jul 31, 2018 | 6:09 AM

The company behind the new 60 million dollar salad products facility in Coldstream is still looking to fill-out its work force.

Jon Blais, Western Region Director of Quebec-based VegPro International, says they will hold a job fair at their plant on Ricardo Road Thursday.

“We’re going to be hiring 20 to 25 positions. Some will be in the farm, because we’re still going to be farming all the way to October, but most of those jobs are going to be in the plant. So some general workers, fork lift drivers, etc. to help us with the start of the plant.”

Blais says the fair will be from 9 am to 6 pm Aug. 2 at their facility, just off Highway 6 by the Coldstream Ranch.

Blais says their packaging facility should be ready to start operating by mid September.

He expects their Fresh Attitude products will be sold in some local stores, and in other parts of Canada.

Blais says they started growing produce at their site about six weeks ago, trying out different varieties and fertilizers.

“We grew some spinach and different varieties of lettuce, and so far, it really turned out to be a decent product of good quality.”

Veg Pro’s purchase of 700 acres from Coldstream Ranch owner Keith Balcaen was announced last December.
