City Election Process Underway

Jul 31, 2018 | 6:00 PM

Potential candidates for Vernon council can now pick up nomination documents from City Hall.

Voters will elect a mayor and six councillors to four year terms on Oct. 20th.

The nomination period runs from September 4to to 14th.

There is a $100 refundable deposit on all nomination packages.

Candidates have to be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, a BC resident for at lest 6 months, and you have to have at least 10 nominators who are qualified electors.

“Holding office can be time consuming. In addition to attending regular meetings (second and fourth Monday of every month at 8:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for public hearings), successful candidates will be asked to sit on advisory committees, boards or commissions that also require significant time. You might consider talking to a current or former Councillor to find out how much time you will be expected to commit,” says a City release.
